The Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede have another summer event under their belt.
Canada Day celebrations will be held at the Stampede grounds. The city made that announcement Wednesday morning.
They say the celebration will take place on Thursday, July 1.
Stampede officials are planning a safe, family-friendly celebration that will follow all AHS guidelines and restrictions.
“The Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede is excited for the opportunity to work with the City of Medicine Hat in hosting a Canada Day celebration,” said Kara Brake, General Manager of the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede. “We will be working closely with Alberta Health Services to safely host an event for all those involved. This accessible, multigenerational, and multicultural event will celebrate Canada and be comprised of multiple different activities, including a spectacular fireworks display. We are truly looking forward to welcoming Hatters back to the stampede grounds on Canada Day!”
Brake hopes Canada Day celebrations will become a long-term event at the grounds, but for now, it will be held there for one year.
Over the last year, the city was looking for a community group to take on planning Canada Day.
“The City wants to support community organizations so they may present events like Canada Day celebrations,” said Aaron Nelson, Manager of Cultural Experiences and Events with the City of Medicine Hat. “Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede has a long and successful history of staging community events and we’re thrilled to support them in celebrating our city and our country.”
Last June, the Medicine Hat and District Canada Day Society dissolved, saying there were long-standing issues with city hall.
