It’s long been said there are only two seasons: winter and road construction.
The second season begins for Medicine Hat motorists on Monday, with construction beginning at two key intersections.
Signs are posted advising motorists to expect delays along the Trans-Canada Highway at First Street Street S.W.
The province is going to eliminate left turns from the side streets from Power House Road and First Street onto Highway 1.
The project also involved lengthening the acceleration and deceleration lanes at that intersection.
Traffic will be detoured as needed during the three-week project.
The other project starting on Monday involves the intersection of Gershaw Drive and Eighth Avenue SW.
That intersection is being converted to an all-turns intersection to allow motorists to get out of the traffic lanes when turning.
Traffic will be detoured with the closure of the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Bomford Crescent during the three-week project.
At the same time, work will begin to widen and provide dual left-turn lanes for traffic coming from the Trans Canada highway onto Gershaw Drive.
That’s a five-week project, but all the work is weather-dependent.
