Today the world mourns the loss of an amazing women who was not only a phenomenal actress but also helped pave the way for females in Hollywood to direct and produce movies.
Penny Marshall, best known for her role opposite of Cindy Williams in “Laverne and Shirley” (1976-1983), passed away on Monday due to complications from diabetes.
Over the years Marshall logged over 70 film/TV credits as an actress. As a filmmaker, she became the first woman to direct a film that grossed more than $100 million with “Big,” the 1988 comedy starring Tom Hanks. She also directed “A League of Their Own,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Awakenings.” to name a few of her 15 directing credits. She was one of the top grssing female directors in Hollywood.
Marshall passed away in her Hollywood Hills, California home. She will be dearly missed.
