A new study suggests we should avoid reaching for our caffeine kick as soon as we wake up. I know you have probably dismissed this ‘study’ already but here is what they have to say about the best time to get your fix.
The best time for your body to absorb caffeine is when your body is producing the most cortisol which they say can also be called the “alertness hormone”. So when does your body produce this? The first peak happens about an hour after you wake up. The second happens between noon and 1 and the final peak between 5:50 and 6:30. That of course does depend on when you wake up.
There are also negatives to drinking coffee outside these times. The researchers say going against the cortisol production times actually undermines the effect of caffeine and could even cause you to build a tolerance.
I usually think science does some amazing things but in this case I think I will chose to ignore this study and stick to my usual rate including the 2 cups I drank just writing this
