It’s the time of year you start to despise your lawn..covered in those pesky leaves, making you go outside and do manual labour. For those people who hate raking leaves you now have a reason not to..and you will be doing good!
The leading conservation group in Canada is asking people NOT to rake their leaves. Yep you read that right. It’s actually more environmentally friendly to leave your lawn covered in the colours of fall. That covering provides a home and protection for many small animals during the cold winter months.
Helping insects have a home also provides winter birds with food (okay so yes you are helping something live to be food but that’s how nature works).
If you just can’t stand a leaf covered lawn you can still help. You can rake the leaves under trees or mulch them into smaller pieces which can be even better. Still don’t want them on your lawn? Mulch them and add to garden beds.
Now you can tell people you are not lazy..you are environmentally friendly. You’re welcome!
