Somebody call the fun police…before the real police come
Kids in some US cities over the age of 12 who are ‘caught’ Trick or Treating could actually face fines or jail time…yep time in the slammer just to get some free delicious candy.
In the town of Chesapeake (which I first read as Cheap-skate) the law says:
“If any person over the age of 12 years shall engage in the activity commonly known as ‘trick or treat’ or any other activity of similar character or nature under any name whatsoever, he or she shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than $25.00 nor more than $100.00 or by confinement in jail for not more than six months or both.”
Other cities have similar laws although most of those just involve a fine.
The jail time city did say they would not be ‘actively enforcing’ the law but it is designed to ensure the evening is as safe as possible. I’ve seen some 13 year olds get pretty angry when they don’t get candy so I am not sure their plan is going to work
It all seems a little unfair especially considering most of them will have to pay ‘tax’ on the candy to their parents
